I finished up this painting right after I woke up today. When I get up my husband picks me up to go grab a coffee, and sometimes lately I paint right when I get home. This fairy series has been a long time coming and it makes me connect with nature in a whole new way. The whole time I was painting I was singing this song...
Next week I'm traveling to Wisconsin to visit my parents. They live in a log home near the great Mississippi River, and I can't wait to commune with nature while I'm there. The fairies I'm painting stem from something I read by Doreen Virtue...that when you do something to help nature fairies will show up in your life. I've read oracles for a long time and have had many card decks. One card that always takes my breath away are the ones that encourage me to be a steward of the Earth.
I feel such magic when I visit the woods. Something about nature just can't be contained, when you go to the wild you never know what you will see. Nature is so vibrant and alive, and sometimes I swear I can feel the energy of everything growing and changing right before my eyes. I love how nature always surprises me, it's the one place where life is just flowing and I feel like everything is right in the world. Nature is so powerful and while it can be cold the one thing I can say about nature is that it is always straight forward.
There was a time when I felt afraid of the woods. In a lot of ways the way you view nature represents your relationship with yourself. The more comfortable I have become with myself and all the various aspects of my own nature...the more comfortable I have become being in the wild. The yin and yang elements of your own personality become personified when you go into nature and you begin to see your inner world mirrored back to you. Taking a hike or sitting by a lake or exploring the prairie puts you smack dab in touch with your own mysterious nature.
Let the magic and mystery of the natural world touch you in the ways that it longs to. Let nature wrap you in her embrace and you will never be the same.
