Building a Journal Page

I’m really getting into building up these layers! The Painters Bliss class has given me the courage to try out some new skills. At first I hated it, just making backgrounds unsure of what they would become. But now I’m developing my own style with the works! They look nothing like the ones Alisa Burke makes, and so much more like my own personal style.

Here are the three stages this journal page went through!

I drew on an elephant, and then painted around the outside outline with yellow gouache. Next I painted the background navy, then free wrote on the background with white Sakura Gelly Roll pen. I added a sheer wash of acrylic ink over the top of the background.

I kept picturing a rainbow surrounding the elephant, so I got out a bigger brush and painted around the elephant with gouache. Loving my new elephant journal page! It is rich with meaning because elephants symbolize family and memories from the past to me.
