Sew for your Kittens

Recently my cat had to have surgery. He had to wear a stomach tube when he came home, so the vet put a mesh tube around his belly. The tube kept sliding off and it was such a nightmare, because the mesh was there so Indy wouldn’t bite the area where the stomach tube was. It had to stay put!

My husband went to pet smart and got a little cat t shirt. Indy had lost a ton of weight…fortunately he has gained it back now after the fact! But he was scrawny, so the t shirt was really small. I got a crafty idea, and decided to make a recovery dress for him. He didn’t wind up wearing it, but I’m keeping it anyway, just in case we need it in the future.

I just measured the bottom of the shirt, and sewed a tube to the bottom hem. It is way too long, so I will be hemming it if I ever need to use it. Hopefully that day will not come, but if it does I will be ready!

You know your pets better than anyone else does. Sometimes sewing a mat or pet blanket is just the thing to soothe your creatures. If you have dogs, be careful what you sew for them because they chew everything. Cats on the other hand just love a handmade pet mat or blanket! My cats have always understood when I make something for them, because they used to always be in the sewing room with me when I was working on projects for them.

Another fun thing to sew for cats is catnip toys. Just grab some scraps of a thicker fabric like upcycled denim or canvas and sew a little catnip pouch or two.
